Lasers from the Heavens!

Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) is working on the hardware to use satellites in space to collect solar energy. The Space Solar Power System would provide clean energy that is unhindered by interference from clouds and such that land-based systems are prone to. Expected to be in place by 2030, this system will power 500,000 homes by sending a laser to receiving stations on Earth. This sounds pretty awesome! Not trying to be a naysayer though, but I think they’re going to have to up the ante in order to produce a reasonable ROI. Here’s to lasers coming from the skies! [Pink Tentacle]
