With Apple still in talks with Chinese carriers about bringing the iPhone to China, they have decided to go ahead with plans to build brick and mortar stores in China. The first one to be constructed will be in Chaoyang district, on Sanlitun’s famous bar street. The store will be 1000 square meters, concept designs and exact location are still unavailable. This is actually the second location Apple wanted, and their preferred site will now be the second store, which is a 3000 square meter building, to be located on Qianmen Avenue, close to Tiananmen Square. Qianmen Ave is currently undergoing $40 million renovations to include Ming-era architecture, and make the area more pedestrian-friendly for shopping, thus the delay. All this activity could also mean good news for the iPhone in China; this is definitely a story you may want to follow if you are a looking for early hints. [CScout]
