Comcast and BitTorrent Update
March 28, 2008 Category: Internet No Comments »
Finally, I could read more into the Comcast and BitTorrent settlement from yesterday. Essentially, Comcast is playing nice in order to avoid the FFC hammer on net neutrality, and government mandates on internet providers regarding content filtering. However, there are now plans to monitor all connections by Comcast, not just BitTorrent traffic. Connections would only be scaled back for ‘heavy users’ during peak times. Maybe more equal, but I still think this is more snooping than morally and legally should be allowed. All is not over, as Kevin Martin, the FCC man-in-charge, still is unsatisfied, and at least wants "a commitment of a date certain by when it will stop this practice." I’ll be following along, especially since I got hit by Comcast the other day. Definitely not cool. [Giz]
