Happy Tax Day! But, Not Really…

2006_02_ask_taxes It’s April 15th, everyone’s favorite day of the year.  Today is a holiday like no other, if you’re Uncle Sam.  This year however, you may get lucky and get something back, provided you file your taxes–and, you’re supposed to help the economy and spend it.  So get in your money or your late forms to avoid being fined on top of giving the Federal Government a third of your yearly earnings.

This morning I’d like to vent a little about the some of my issues stemming from tax code in the United States, and I hope you’ll voice some of your opinions in the Comments below.  Hit the jump for my .02 cents.

I am a student that pays my own way, with loans I might add, and my first issue involves exactly that.  If Bush and Co., along with most of Washington, have deemed that a ‘college education is a must in the world today,’ then why are they asking college students to not only bear the over-the-top costs of tuition, but then to take away more money from the little we have time to earn during the year?  Now, I can get around some of this, and receive more Federal aid, but then I have to declare myself independent of my parents.  This may help my financial situation a bit; until I am no longer covered my parent’s health care plan.  If I recall, that is another ‘must have’ debate going on in Washington.  So, I get to choose between cheaper, yet still expensive college assistance, or my healthcare.  I have to say, I am pretty healthy (I eat right and workout at least an hour almost everyday) and may be taking that risk to try and eliminate what will eventually a mass to over $100K of debt plus interest when I leave school.  Washington wonders how college is such a struggle for so many, but all they are doing is taking my money then giving it right back to me in Federal Aid, and then I pay it right back top them plus some.

I will agree that Government needs to be funded, and I am willing to do my share.  However, I believe there should be a push in Washington to set an age (23 IMO, and you can ask me my reasons and how to implement this another time) to begin taxing young Americans.  How are we supposed to fix the debt problems in this country if America’s youth is coming into the work force already massively in debt, and adding to it because the taxes on the miniscule amount of money they’ve been making since High school (Jr. High for me–I like nice things, and I had to pay for a car and all that junk) have taken away money they need for daily necessities like food and shelter?

That is just one of my wonderful all-encompassing realizations about the great United States of America.  This country is strong enough to survive, but there needs to be some massive reshuffling in the political arenas that have come to run the show in our country.  I will do my part and try to get other to open up their minds to realize there are solutions to every problem.  Since I’m starting to ramble, this is where I’ll stop myself because I am getting all fired up, and all things government all pissing me off; starting with the fact I had to come in to work before 6am today since the street department has decided to close my route to work to repave it–there’s hardly a bump in the road.  I hope my two cents got you thinking, and hopefully the tax man isn’t too rough on ya’ll.  Happy Tuesday! -M
