What is Apple’s newest talks with record execs about? Well, Financial Times has the dirt you want to hear about. I will be intrigued to find out what Apple’s second place music sales does to the per handset price, in which Nokia already shells out $80 for the same kind of deal. Apple looks to be in position to make mucho dinero if all goes well; even better if they get their bid of twenty bucks a headset. Oh, and enjoy what I assume is Brian Lam’s Photoshop skills. A Hint Into the Apple Design Genius
March 14, 2008 Category: Apple No Comments »
Apple senior engineering manager, Michael Lopp gave an interesting presentation at SXSW detailing some of the design methods used of in Cupertino. Check out the link for more info. Here are some details of his presentation:
Pixel Perfect Mockups: Lopp says they are time consuming in the beginning, but reduce the need to correct mistakes in the later part of development.
10 to 3 to 1: This method goes from ten completely different design ideas for a concept, to three, which will continued to be focused on. After several months working on the three, they decide on one for final development.
Paired Design Meetings: Every week, design teams have two meetings. One meeting is a brainstorming session in which there are no limits, and the other looks at practical implementation of ideas.
Apple WWDC Dates Sets

Apple has just released the dates for their World Wide Developer’s Conference. It will be Monday, June 9th to the 13th, at the Moscone West in downtown San Francisco. The keynote is most likely going to be the first day, Monday 9th. Rumors have already been floating around for months that June is the month the next generation iPhone will be released, with 3G capabilities; they now seem to be closer to being confirmed. As always, I will be looking forward to the Steve Jobs keynote. [Apple Insider]

MBA Humor

The Macbook Air has come up in quite few of my favorite tech blogs in the last week, and not with reviews or analysis. Apparently, people are having a hard time getting used to the sexy, slim form factor of Apple’s newest laptop. First in the news, was the story of Michael Nygard, who was pulled aside by the always brilliant Transportation Security Administration (TSA) because his optical drive-less and limited-port laptop confused the person running the X-ray machine. A younger worker eventually helped clear up the mess, and Mr. Nygard was on his way, to his already departed flight. The other entertaining story involves famed tech journalist Steven Levy. He managed to throw away his MBA, which was on loan from Apple, in the Sunday newspaper that was tossed on top of it. This just may be me, but I don’t know why I would ever read the newspaper if I had a gorgeous, lightweight Macbook Air to get my news instead. [TSA and MBA Trash]

Is this an image of the new iPhone or iPod Touch? This appeared on an iTunes Store page where there is usually and iPhone or iPod Touch… I would definitely be excited in my pants if this was the new design. I have been wanting lesser vertical dimensions than the current model. [iLounge]

iPhone SDK Chime In

I could not go without my putting in some of my thoughts on the new SDK (software development kit) that was officially announced yesterday, at Apple headquarters in Cupertino. There has definitely been a lot of excitement in the tech world for this SDK and I think Jobs’ and Apple have released the best mobile platform to date, and yesterday’s news is yet another feather in the their cap. There is finally all of the features like secure connections and Exchange support that have been holding business users, and even myself, back (colleges use Exchange too). Still waiting for 3G, I am thrilled that there will be plenty of software developed by the time my contract is up in early August. I can not wait to see what developers come up with! I am not going to write up a detailed article on the features, but I will put the link to the keynote at the end (a flash version will be hosted here soon). Also, check my usual favs Gizmodo, Apple Insider and Engadget for more in depth analysis. [Apple]

Well I came to West Town in Knoxville to get clothes, but I just could not resist stopping in and putting up a post while using a MBA. I am definitely pretty impressed too! I might just have to put on in the budget. Vols take on Georgia at 3 PM EST. Go Vols!
EDIT: Vols win 74-71!
