Auction 06 Verizon_Wireless_Logo.GIF$19.5 billion is what it took to buy all the blocks on the 700 MHz spectrum up for auction–except the D-blcok, which did not meet the public reserve. Verizon appears to be the 50-statewide c-block for almost $4.8 billion, as predicted, and the government has a D-block to dispose of. Hopefully Verizon will put up their 4G and possibly GSM-based, LTE network as well. Or, nationwide access to Wifi for us internet addicted folks. [Engadget]

audeo-neckband Ambient Corp is demonstrating a new product, dubbed Audeo, it is capable of vocalizing nerve signals to the vocal chords.  All the user has to do is wear the neckband and think about voicing their thoughts.  The device will then pick up the signals and produce the desired sound(s), after some processing delay of course.  Currently, this is able to produce 150 words and phrases, and there is phenome-based system in the works, which will allow the user to speak anything.  Aimed at those who have lost the ability to speak say from Lou Gehrig’s Disease, Audeo may also be the final solution to the annoying cell phone user sitting next to you on the [insert mass tranportation system].  Follow the link for a video of this amazing device in action. iPhone SDK Chime In

apple_iphone_sdktop_20080306 I could not go without my putting in some of my thoughts on the new SDK (software development kit) that was officially announced yesterday, at Apple headquarters in Cupertino.  There has definitely been a lot of excitement in the tech world for this SDK and I think Jobs’ and Apple have released the best mobile platform to date, and yesterday’s news is yet another feather in the their cap.  There is finally all of the features like secure connections and Exchange support that have been holding business users, and even myself, back (colleges use Exchange too).  Still waiting for 3G, I am thrilled that there will be plenty of software developed by the time my contract is up in early August. I can not wait to see what developers come up with!  I am not going to write up a detailed article on the features, but I will put the link to the keynote at the end (a flash version will be hosted here soon).  Also, check my usual favs Gizmodo, Apple Insider and Engadget for more in depth analysis.
