We Want Slurm!

slurm3 Slurm, the soft drink of the future, in the hit show Futurama, is being trademarked by Twentieth Century Fox. Apparently, there may be a future market for the tooth-rotting beverage, and Fox is calling dibs. All these morons execs need to do now is release the rest of the Futurama movies and get the show back on the air. [Giz]

Magnetic Fields = Free Power?

February 27, 2008    Category: Random   No Comments »

magfields Here is a neat image of 1,301 florescent bulbs being powered by nothing more than the magnetic field created by the power lines above. I wonder if there are some other possibilities that this "free" energy could be applied to. Follow the link for more images and info. [Gizmodo]

Random Japan Video

February 25, 2008    Category: Japan, Random   No Comments »

I stumbled upon this video from the Asahi beer factory in Japan when working on an iPhoto project last week. I thought it would be the perfect excuse to work with ecto and try out a new post style. This is a video of the fountain that greets you as you walk in the factory. The tour not only dropped my jaw with the quantities of beer I witnessed being made, but ended with a pleasant tasting in a tower overlooking the entire complex. Hopefully all goes well and you can see this post.

Brain Test

February 25, 2008    Category: Random   No Comments »

After a work conversation this morning about psycology, learning, right/left brain dominance, etc., I took this test to see what my right/left dominance was. I have to say, as uncomfortable as it makes me that this and previous evaluations have pegged me so well, it is really neat that there are ways to not only find these patterns, but programs them as well. Here are my results from Mind Media. Follow the link and let me know how it goes.

Matt, you are strongly left-hemisphere dominant, with a balanced preference for auditory and visual inputs, a productive combination of traits. The preeminence of your left hemisphere implies that you are organized, structured, and self-monitoring. You always start analyzing situations and problems by looking at details and then attempt to categorize those details in a very systematic way. You persevere on a theme. Because of your balance between auditory and visual approaches, you can organize details into a pattern or you can arrange them sequentially so that you have at hand at least two alternatives which dimensionalize your organization and thoroughness. There is no question that you enjoy a sense of control and feel that planning is important. Everything must be definite since im- provisation is less easy for you. You can be reflective at times and active at others, focus on the visual aspects at some times and on the auditory qualities at others. You have the capacity to simultaneously process a great deal of information and then your tendency is to organize and categorize it as the most convenient mode of accessing it again in the future. Your balance of sensory preferences tends to make you more perceptive than most, and your ability to organize information adds to your productive processing capabilities.

Neat Concept

February 22, 2008    Category: Random   No Comments »

product_wallstairs I just came across this really neat staircase concept on Giz. It is probably the most interesting, in my opinion, of a Top 10 Coolest Concepts post. How cool would it be to get the RFID kit out to only deploy for you! Can you say no more randoms roaming your room during a party. Any other useful applications? I am sure ya’ll can figure something out. Leave a comment to voice your ideas. Follow the link to see the other nine. [Gizmodo]

Huge Fish Tank: the Aquadom

February 19, 2008    Category: Random   No Comments »

Installed in Berlin’s SAS Hotel, the Aquadom is officially the largest cylindrical aquarium in the world. At 12 meters (36ft) in diameter and 25 meters (72 ft) high, this baby holds 2,600 fish in 238,000 gallons of sea water. I would love to see the next MTV Cribs star that tries to outdo this $18.8 million monster. [Giz]
